MBBS in the UK for Indian students

UK medical schools offer some of the most respected medical degrees in the world. Depending on the university, the degree is called MBBS, MBChB, BMBS or MB BCh BAO, but all are primary medical qualifications approved by the UK's General Medical Council (GMC). Places for international students are limited and competitive, so early planning is important.

Fees

International tuition for medicine is set by each university and is much higher than for other degrees. Several universities charge a lower rate in the early years and a higher rate in the clinical years, and some add placement levies. Compare the total course fee for each university in the table above, and remember to budget for accommodation and living costs in the UK.

Practising in India after a UK degree

If you plan to return to India, check how the course fits the NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021, before you accept an offer. You will also need to pass India's licensing exam (currently FMGE, until NExT is introduced). XEAL Education Works explains how each UK programme fits these rules during counselling.
