Birmingham Medical School is one of the largest in the UK and offers a 5-year MBChB. Students train at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and other West Midlands NHS hospitals. International applicants usually need A-levels or equivalent (Class 12 PCB), English proficiency (IELTS), the UCAT where the school requires it, and an interview. Indian students must also qualify NEET-UG to be eligible to practise in India.

UK medical degrees (MBBS / MBChB) usually take 5 years (6 with an intercalated degree or foundation year), followed by the 2-year UK Foundation Programme for graduates who work in the UK.

  • Years 3–5: clinical placements in Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, General Practice and more

  • UCAT: most UK medical schools require the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT).
  • Academic grades: very high Class 12 (or A-level/IB) results in Biology and Chemistry.
  • English test: IELTS or equivalent for international students.
  • Interview: MMI or panel interview.
  • Application: through UCAS, usually by mid-October for the following year.
  • NEET-UG: also required if you plan to practise in India later.
