What is the FMGE?

The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is the screening test conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India who have completed their primary medical degree (MBBS) outside India. Clearing it is required before you can register with the National Medical Commission or a State Medical Council and practise medicine in India. Check the current NBEMS information bulletin for eligibility, exemptions and dates.

What you get

  • A real CBT screen: question palette, mark for review, one timer per part
  • All 20 FMGE subjects in the exam's subject-wise proportion, from 2,060+ question bank
  • A hall ticket with your roll number on registration
  • Your score out of 300 against the pass mark, with part-wise, subject-wise and topic-wise analysis, by e-mail (PDF report)
  • A progress report: better or worse than your last test, and the subjects to work on
  • A new test every week with new questions, and a free counselling call if you want one

Why ₹9?

We want only serious candidates to take this test: doctors who sit through both parts and do not leave midway.

We have put a great deal of work into this test and into a question bank built on the FMGE subjects and the standard textbooks, so that you get the feel of the exam hall and of a 150-minute part. We keep adding new questions to help you improve.

₹9 is a one-time payment. You can take one full test every week for one year.

Instructions for the test

Pattern and marking

  1. 300 questions in two parts: Part A and Part B, 150 questions each.
  2. Each part has its own 150-minute timer and is submitted automatically when the time is over.
  3. Every question has four options and one best answer.
  4. +1 for a correct answer, no negative marking. Maximum 300; the FMGE pass mark is 150.

Taking the test

  1. Log in with your XEAL account, or with your roll number (on the hall ticket) and registered mobile number.
  2. Start Part A or Part B. After you submit a part you can take a break and continue later with "Continue test".
  3. You can submit a part yourself at any time (you are asked to confirm first).
  4. Stay in the test window. If you switch to another tab or app, minimise or close the window, or lock your phone, the part is submitted automatically with the answers saved so far.
  5. Your result and progress report are not shown on screen: they are e-mailed to you after both parts.
  6. One test a week: your next mock test opens 7 days after the previous one, with new questions.
  7. Use a laptop or desktop if you can, with a stable internet connection.

Before you start

  • Keep 150 minutes free for each part and take the test in a quiet place, if possible with no one around.
  • Keep your cellphone away. If you take the test on your phone, turn on Do Not Disturb so a call or message does not take you out of the test window.
  • Sit through each part as you would in the exam centre.

Make it a habit

  • Take a test every week: a new test opens 7 days after your last one.
  • Track your progress against the pass mark: every result is compared with your last one.
  • Put the mock test in your time table, so you take it at regular intervals before your FMGE session.

Disclaimer: This mock test is for practice only.
