Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT)
Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is a private deemed university with its main campus in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, about 135 km from Chennai. Founded in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College, it became a deemed university in 2001 and now also runs campuses at Chennai, Amaravati (VIT-AP) and Bhopal. The Vellore campus is large and fully residential, with one of the biggest B.Tech intakes in the country and a wide range of specialisations, many in computer science. VIT holds NAAC A++ accreditation and was ranked 16 in the NIRF 2025 Engineering rankings. Admission is through its own exam, VITEEE, with a rank-based fee category system that sets tuition for the full programme.

VIT tuition depends on the fee category allotted by VITEEE rank (Category 1 = best ranks, Category 5 = no scholarship). Figure used = Category 1 for Group B (CSE, IT, ECE, EEE, Mechanical, Aerospace and most specialisations). Group B tuition per year: Cat 1 INR 1,95,000; Cat 2 INR 3,04,000; Cat 3 INR 4,02,000; Cat 4 INR 4,45,000; Cat 5 INR 4,90,000. Group A (Biotech, Bioengineering, Chemical, Civil): INR 1,73,000 to 3,95,000. One-time refundable caution deposit INR 5,000. Hostel and mess are charged separately and are not included.
