NEET UG Counselling Jharkhand: MBBS and BDS Admission Guide for Jharkhand State Quota

By XEAL Education Works counsellors · Since 2011 · Updated 5 Nov 2026

Short answer: State quota NEET UG counselling for MBBS and BDS in Jharkhand is run by the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB) on jceceb.jharkhand.gov.in, using a State Merit List based on NEET results. The 15% All India Quota seats, deemed universities and central institutions are filled separately through MCC at mcc.nic.in. XEAL Education Works helps students from Jharkhand with both counselling streams online and by phone.

Who runs NEET UG counselling in Jharkhand?

If you are planning MBBS admission in Jharkhand or a BDS seat in the state, there are two counselling systems you need to understand. The first is the state counselling, which in Jharkhand is conducted by the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB) on its official website, jceceb.jharkhand.gov.in. JCECEB prepares a State Merit List based on NEET (UG) results and runs online rounds of counselling for MBBS, BDS and some other courses such as BHMS.

The second is the national counselling run by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) at mcc.nic.in. MCC handles the 15% All India Quota seats in government medical colleges across India, along with seats in deemed universities, central institutions and certain other categories. A student from Jharkhand can, and usually should, take part in both.

Both systems depend on one thing: a valid NEET UG score from the National Testing Agency (NTA). There is no separate state medical entrance test in Jharkhand. Your NEET rank decides where you stand in the State Merit List as well as in MCC counselling.

State quota vs MCC All India Quota: what is the difference?

Government medical colleges in Jharkhand keep 15% of their MBBS and BDS seats for the All India Quota. These seats are filled through MCC and are open to eligible NEET candidates from every state. The remaining government seats are filled through JCECEB state counselling, where eligibility rules for Jharkhand candidates apply.

  • MCC (mcc.nic.in): 15% All India Quota seats in government colleges, deemed universities, central universities (such as AMU, BHU and Delhi University seats), ESIC seats for wards of insured persons, and AFMC Pune, as listed on the MCC website.
  • JCECEB (jceceb.jharkhand.gov.in): state quota seats in Jharkhand government medical and dental colleges, and seats in private medical and dental colleges in the state as per the rules in the current information brochure.

JCECEB notices also refer to counselling for certain seats that are open to all-India candidates in MBBS and BDS courses. Exactly which seats fall in which category, and who is eligible for each, is defined in the brochure for that year, so read it carefully before you register.

Eligibility and domicile in general terms

To take part in any NEET counselling you must have qualified NEET UG as per the cut-off percentile announced by NTA, and you must meet the age and qualifying examination (Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English) requirements set by the National Medical Commission.

For state quota seats, Jharkhand, like most states, expects candidates to satisfy residence or domicile conditions. These are usually linked to the state's local resident certificate and, in some cases, to where the candidate studied. Category reservation within the state quota is based on Jharkhand state category certificates. Because these conditions are set in the state's rules and can be revised, always confirm the exact wording in the current JCECEB information brochure before assuming you qualify.

Students who do not meet the Jharkhand state quota conditions are not shut out of the state completely. They can still compete for 15% All India Quota seats through MCC and, where the brochure allows, for seats in private colleges that are open to candidates from outside the state.

Government, private and deemed colleges

Jharkhand has government medical colleges, private medical colleges and dental colleges. Government seats carry the lowest fees and are usually the most competitive. Private college seats cost much more, and the fee for each college is fixed by the competent authority and published before counselling. Deemed universities are not part of state counselling at all; their seats are filled only through MCC.

Before choosing, check that the college is listed by the National Medical Commission (nmc.org.in) for the current academic year, how many seats it has, and the fee published for your category. Never rely on a fee figure quoted by an agent without seeing the official notification. Our guide to NEET management quota MBBS fees explains how private and management fees generally work.

Step-by-step: how Jharkhand NEET counselling works

  1. Qualify NEET UG and download your scorecard from neet.nta.nic.in.
  2. Register on the JCECEB website for state counselling when the advertisement is released. Fill in your details exactly as they appear on your NEET and school documents.
  3. Check the State Merit List. JCECEB publishes a merit list based on NEET results and allows a window for corrections. Report any error within the correction dates.
  4. Fill and lock choices in order of real preference. Put the colleges you most want at the top, not the ones you think are easiest.
  5. Seat allotment is published round by round. If you get a seat, download the allotment letter.
  6. Document verification and reporting must be completed within the dates given. Missing the reporting window can cost you the seat.
  7. Further rounds, including later rounds and a stray vacancy round, fill seats that remain vacant. Read each round's rules on upgradation and forfeiture before you join.

In parallel, register for MCC counselling for All India Quota seats. MCC and state rounds run on separate schedules, so keep a calendar of both and watch the official websites regularly.

Documents to keep ready

  • NEET UG admit card and scorecard
  • Class 10 certificate (for date of birth) and Class 12 marksheet and certificate
  • Jharkhand local resident or domicile certificate, as required by the brochure
  • Category certificate issued by the competent authority in Jharkhand, if claiming reservation
  • EWS or disability certificate, if applicable, in the prescribed format
  • Recent passport-size photographs and a valid photo ID such as Aadhaar
  • Allotment letter and fee payment receipts for each round

Keep both original documents and several self-attested photocopies. The brochure lists the exact formats; a certificate in the wrong format is a common reason for problems at verification.

Common mistakes Jharkhand students make

  • Registering only for state counselling and skipping MCC, or the other way round. Doing both gives you more options.
  • Not checking the State Merit List for errors in name, category or domicile status during the correction window.
  • Filling too few choices or putting choices in the wrong order, which can lead to a seat you do not want or no seat at all.
  • Ignoring the rules on security deposits, upgradation and resignation in each round, which can lead to losing money or a seat.
  • Trusting unofficial "seat confirmation" offers. Seats in state and MCC counselling are allotted only through the official online process.
