Sechenov University (First Moscow State Medical University)
Sechenov University – the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University – was founded in 1758 and is Russia's oldest and best-known medical university, with its own University Clinical Hospitals in Moscow.
Its international tuition page lists USD 11,800 per year for English-taught General Medicine, about USD 70,800 for six years.
In Russia the course is General Medicine (Specialist degree), commonly called MBBS in India. It runs for 6 years and is taught in English at the universities listed by XEAL, covering the subjects required by NMC (FMGL Regulations 2021).
- Years 1–2 (pre-clinical): Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Latin, Russian language for patient communication
- Year 3 (para-clinical): Pathology, Pathophysiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Propaedeutics
- Years 4–6 (clinical): Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Neurology, Psychiatry, Infectious Diseases, Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dermatology
- Clinical clerkship / internship: supervised practice in the university's hospitals, as required for NMC
Hospital postings take place in a Russian-speaking environment. Ask for written confirmation that teaching is in English for all six years and what language support is given in clinics.

Fees for the 2026-27 intake as listed by XEAL Education Works (Russia MBBS fee sheet 2026-27; RUB converted at about RUB 88 = USD 1, so the USD figure is approximate). Tuition only: hostel, food, insurance, visa, medical check-up, translation, registration and travel are extra unless stated. Fees can change each session; confirm the final amount from the university's official offer letter / fee contract before making any payment.
- NEET-UG: Indian students must qualify NEET-UG. The result is accepted for MBBS abroad for three years.
- Class 12 marks: Physics, Chemistry and Biology, usually at least 50% (40% for reserved categories); at least 17 years old by 31 December.
- No entrance exam for most universities; some hold an online interview or test.
- Documents: Class 10 and 12 mark sheets and certificates, NEET scorecard, passport, photographs.
- Admission letter and visa: the university issues an invitation letter, then you apply for a Russian student visa. Keep copies of your passport, visa, migration card, admission order, hostel contract and fee receipts.
Before paying, ask for in writing:
- Official offer/admission letter and itemised fee contract (tuition, hostel, insurance, registration, refund policy)
- Medium of instruction certificate covering all years, including clinical postings and internship
- WDOMS (World Directory of Medical Schools) listing
- Internship / clinical rotation details: NMC FMGL Regulations 2021 need at least 54 months of study plus a 12-month internship at the same foreign institution, in English, with the right to register/practise in that country
- Whether the degree allows registration/licensing in Russia, and the Embassy of India (Moscow) advisory for Indian medical students
